The Present-Day Classroom

When you think of the word "classroom", what is the first thing that comes to mind? The first thing that comes to my mind is children, arts and crafts, the alphabets, and technology.  Children in this day-and-age are more tech-savvy than in the past.  Computers are seen more in the classroom as a necessity than a luxury. Chalk boards are still being used but are quickly getting replaced by smart boards, dry-erase boards, and projector screens.  Smart boards are equipment that are touch screen to make learning more fun.  Projector screens are used to play DVD’s and it connects to computers to share works.
Students are facing many emerging issues such as global warming, famine, poverty, health issues, a global population explosion and other environmental and social issues.  These issues lead to a need for students to be able to communicate, function and create change personally, socially, economically and politically on local, national and global levels.
In today’s society, children have to deal with bullying.  The definition of bullying is abusive treatment, the use of force or coercion to affect others, particularly when habitual and involving an imbalance of power.  The suicide rate has sky rocketed in the past five years.  Children can bully on the web, verbally, and physically.  It is estimated that one-and-sixty thousand children miss school each year because they are afraid of being bullied.
In conclusion, today’s classroom is full of fun and technology.  Students are faced with many issues.  For example, global warming, environmental, and social issues.  Bullying is a major downfall in today’s classroom.  Students focus more on what they and everybody else around them have on instead of their school work.  Kids should just focus on being a kid.
